1-Inch Watercolor Paintings of Street Artists in Wynwood

Kilo Collective’s Brazilian-born artist Gustavo Sousa is in Miami, watching the insane amount of legal murals going up for art fair season. Every day, Sousa is painting very tiny, surprisingly detailed, impressionistic mini-portraits of the street artists at work using a tiny “portable studio” watercolor kit.

“This project uses Instagram as an exhibition space,” Sousa tells ANIMAL. When viewing The Wynwood Series on a mobile device, the 1-inch watercolors are at a 1:1 scale. “All my watercolors you see on Instagram are ‘actual size.'”

Previously, ANIMAL loved Sousa’s site-specific watercolor paintings of rain clouds using actual raindrops captured at various neighborhood of New York, Paris, São Paulo, Paris and more, below those rain clouds.
