Takashi Murakami, aka the Warhol of Japan, comes off—as does Damien Hirst—in Jay Z’s newly released “Blue Magic” video, the single from the rapper’s upcoming American Gangster concept album inspired by the movie that bears the same name. Images of Murakami’s “Buddha” character and Hirst’s swirling skulls makes the background pop while Hov raps about the old school and heavy hustling. Jay must have liked the cover art the Japanese pop sensation did for Kanye West’s Graduation album, and so he kept him in the fam.
