MTA Will Surveil Straphangers To Try and Catch Vandals
The worst part about Scratchitti—at least when it comes to riding the elevated subway lines—is that it obscures your view, otherwise it’s really not that bad of a problem and there’s plenty of other priorities in front of it. Sure it’s a bit of a blight but does it really warrant the MTA installing surveillance cameras, which ironically, could cost more than the vandalism itself? There’s also the whole privacy concern issue, with the movements of mostly innocent people being recorded in an attempt to catch a few. Plus, as mentioned before with the Times Square bike bomber, even when you have an image of an assailant, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna catch anyone. But not to worry, this article was doomed from the beginning with it’s “Transit cams to train eyes on paint punks” headline. Those “paint punks,” prefer to vandalize the exterior Pete Donohue, that etching shit is who the Transit Authority is trying to catch. |NYDN|
