The Tag As Highly Evolved Art Form

This is one of the coolest conceptual experiments to prove that despite its destructive nature, the tag is indeed a high art form. “Graffiti Taxonomy presents isolated letters from various graffiti tags, reproduced in similar scales and at close proximity. The intent of these studies is to show the diversity of styles as expressed in a single character,” writes Evan Roth aka ni9e of the GRL. He developed this ‘Taxonomy’ project back in 2004 by reproducing the letters from photographs of tags located in the LES. Due to high demand in the project, he’s releasing the The Lower East Side ‘E’ as the first series in a multi-part series of NYC vowels: A, E, I, O, U. The 24 x 24 inch print will be released in limited editions of 100, signed and numbered for $185.00. Get it here. |F.A.T.|
