Artist Pulls the Plug On Space Invading WTC Art

250_originalspace.jpgNoting how “immature” people are being about his art installation that featured a playable version of the arcade classic Space Invaders, but with alien characters invading the World Trade Center, artist Douglas Stanley decided to remove the piece from an exhibit in Germany. Although the Computer Spiele Museum in Berlin supported the his right to showcase the work it was hyper-sensitive Americans that ruined the building destroying 8-bit fun, prompting Stanley to fire back at his detractors on his website:

“The American response to this work has been, frankly, immature, and lacking the sophistication and consideration that other parts of the world have so far shown the work,” he railed.”

In addition to a crush of negative commentary, he received several death threats over the past few days, including outlandish attacks on his family, which he amusingly replied, “A question about style: when you write “SOMEONE SHOULD RAPE HIS CHILDREN AND THEN EAT THEM IN FROM OF HIM” do you HAVE to write UPPERCASE!?” Adding to the drama, Taito, the Japanese company that made the iconic video game, is “seriously considering” suing the artist for the unauthorized use of its beloved pixelated world enders. |NYDN|
