As magazines struggle for relevancy, it’s inevitable that mainstream titles will increasingly feature icons of urban cool like graffiti, vinyl toys, streetwear or in this case: fixed gears. For their October issue, the UK version of Men’s Health recruited shutterbug Colin Lane—he shot the Is This It cover for The Strokes—to photograph fixed gear riding New Yorkers—including sometimes ANIMAL collaborator Will Sherman, among others—and their cutting edge bikes. Or as the mag describes them: “Single-speed and fixed-wheel bikes are the steeds of the moment.” If by “moment” they mean the past decade and or so, well, then, absolutely!
