Although news of Banksy possibly being outed certainly dominated the street art news this week, tonight there’s an exhibit opening at the Henry Street Settlement in the LES. “Visual Slang 2008: The Modern Urban Imagination” features original pieces by non-American hating Iranian street artist A1one from Tehran, who’s credited for “introducing modern graffiti to the Islamic world,” according to Artcal. But it’s all ‘Peace In the Middle Lower East Side’ tonight, as Tel Aviv’s prized street painters also take the stage, featuring works by Ame72, Know Hope, Klone, Smiling Bag Productions and Zero Cents. Barcelona is also represented as well of course, NYC with Cern, COPE2, INDIE, and others holding it down. The exhibit at the Henry Street Settlement runs through August 31. |Artcal|
