With the tabloid newspaper in the red year after year—losing anywhere between $15-30 million according to a 2005 Business Week Story—the cost of paper continuing to skyrocket, not to mention ad revenue in the shitter and a very weak dollar, Rupert Murdoch instituted a radical way to cut costs, mainly, shrinking the overall size.
