200_flag-staff.jpgAh, the South. Lawmakers in Arkansas have finally closed a loop hole on a law that was meant to set a minimum age of 18 for marriage and instead removed it entirely. Said the law: “In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage.” It was missing the operative word “not,” before “eighteen” and for months child molesters could have been snatching up the kids wholesale and marrying them—which, shockingly, was an actual perceived threat from worried politicians, “Some lawmakers called for a special session last year, saying the error would make it easy for pedophiles to take advantage of the law.” |Yahoo|
