Photographer Gigi Cifali’s “Absence of Water” series focuses on empty swimming pools in England. In the 30s, lidos and baths were popular; these days, they’re left empty and decaying. In the absence of water, nature, people, and rot have settled in, creating something that’s, well, sort of floating, haunting, and otherworldly. Polar Inertia has a gallery of Cifali’s snaps in their current issue and online, and the photographer’s got more on his site. Reminds me of a short story called “The Swimmer,” in which a man attempts to swim home through suburban backyard pools. |BLDGBlog|
