1_Sandhog.jpgIn what could be the biggest waste of money spent in the city ever, the $7.2 billion tunnel to make some LIRR commuter’s lives easier is well underway and you probably didn’t hear a thing. The massive earth chewing rig has been tunneling beneath the streets, helping to make way for a Grand Central Terminal so Long Island 9-5’ers have another option besides Penn Station. Digging deep below the city can be a hazardous job, but luckily, as the AP notes, workers have constant reminders like graffiti to warn them of impeding disaster: “Tunnel digging can be dangerous work, and there are plenty of reminders underground of the hazards, from official signs bearing safety slogans, to graffiti on the walls that remind workers, in brusque terms, to watch their behinds.” |AP|
