250_churros.jpgHigher gas prices are screwing up everything and everybody. Families can’t afford their mounting monthly expenses, people are ratting out each other out for the added cash, pizza slices are shrinking, and now it’s really hitting home: street sold churros are selling at two for a $1 (you used to get three). Although the higher price of the sugary doughy treat might not be as telling as the Big Mac index, it is a great indicator of the effects that rising food costs are having on the local Bushwick economy, even for businesses with relatively no overheard sans the J-M train. According to the lady peddling the cavity inducing treats, wholesalers have jacked up tray prices by $5.
