Fresh off the heels of creating some “Hope” for Barack Obama, The Date Farmers are having their first solo exhibition in NY at at Jonathan LeVine. The dynamic LA-based duo of Armando Lermo and Carlos Ramirez are showcasing a collaborative series featuring collages, painting, and ink drawings on a variety of discarded mediums: signs, wood, cardboard, and corrugated sheet metal. The use of found objects as a preferred medium also touches on their overall theme of environmenalism. The exhibit, dubbed “The Crying Playboy,” explores immigration and other political matters affecting not only Chicanos, but also pale faces too. It opens this Saturday, April 5, 7PM-9PM. The exhibit runs through May 3, 2008.
