This is just so sappy sweet, it’s hard to “diss” it. Hit play, and step inside the jive hive to watch about a dozen Bee-Boys breakdance to a Beestie (sorry) Boys-esque track laid down by DJ Honey. HD (that’s their street name) is steppin’ all over Ben & Jerry’s iizzle with this helpthehoneybees cause marketing effort. As you might have suspected, this isn’t completely altruistic buzz by HD; the campaign is also serving as a launch for a new flavor, Vanilla Honey Bee. But the Site is fairly informative, telling us that more than 25 % of the Western bee population has disappeared over the last few years, and that honey bees are “responsible for pollinating one-third of all the foods we eat, including many of the ingredients that define our all-natural ice creams.” HD says they’ll “donate money” in support of bee and pollination research programs when you buy one of their 12 “bee-dependent” flavors. They of course don’t say how much money. One creative nit: How could you (ad agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners) NOT name the DJ Honey COMBS?
