Created by Leo Burnett in Colombia, South America, this breakthrough ad for the Toyota Prado Cruiser (sold as the 4Runner here) was printed on actual banana leaf. In fact, all 25,000 copies of the ad were printed on banana leaf, and then inserted into issues of the national Colombian magazine Semana. The pioneering adpeoples had to complete the printing process in five days before the leaves started to dry out. The headline translates as “Keep In Touch With Nature.” In a behind the scenes video, the ad agency points out that the leaves were going to be destroyed anyway, so this truly recycled ad represents a positively altruistic effort from Toyota for one of its gas-guzzling non-hybrid 4WD planet chokers. Mmmm, yummy, banana-flavored irony.
