Nick Walker’s NYC Themed Work Continues To Disappoint
Legal wall painting stencil artist Nick Walker who can best be described as a sort of “Rubbish Banksy,” has yet to create a body of artwork that the city’s inhabitants can be proud of. After strolling through town this past summer to paint as many spots that he could get permission for and later retuning to do a fully sanctioned mural in the East Village a few months later, the artist has continually come up short. Even his fine art is lacking some originality and punch, like this print of the Empire State Building splashed with multicolored drips. If you’re going to pervert our iconic landmarks, can you do us a favor and at least leave our beloved King Kong tower alone? |Artbleat|

Wow. I love this image. People are already waiting in line for it 29 hours before it’s release!!!
I say well done Mr Walker (any follower of Contemporary art will know that the only thing he has in common with Banksy is a love of stencils)!
Just to get facts straight - Banksy has always had a team to organise permission for his walls and had a team to paint the last NY ads!
Bucky
Why so negative ‘King Kong’ smashed NY (quite literally) but he’s so ‘yesterday’.
As the previous poster highlighted you seem to be getting caught up & influenced by so called ‘permission walls’.
Your obviously not stupid as your blog is half about but why are you publicly ‘verbally’ attacking the artist?
In this day and age with ‘Graffiti’ now recognised as a stand alone genre, really what did you expect or hope? That he spend some time in ‘your’ city cover it in illegal work, to risk arrest, criminal record & all at a cost to New York’s hard working folks as their taxes paid for the ‘buffing’ of said work.
If you don’t like what Mr Walker does (and I’m talking about the print) then move on as you sound bitter and twisted & child like with vitriol of:
”Legal wall painting stencil artist Nick Walker” Yes and?
“as a sort of Rubbish Banksy” At least have a clear stance & stick with it what the hell is a ‘’sort of rubbish” Get off of your own fence, either you think it’s rubbish or you don’t?!
”has yet to create a body of artwork that the city’s inhabitants can be proud of” …………dear of dear.
Walker has had numerous sold out show’s in his working life that has spanned the last quarter of a century. You mention his gallery ‘Black Rat Press’ so you must be aware of his sell out show last year when people camped on London’s streets to have their pick of his work.
Secondly why does he have create a body of work that New Yorks inhabitants can be proud of”
are you really aware
What bug’s (& scares) me the most is that you seem to have the view you speak for the whole of NY.
Lighten up, get informed & try the more dignified less hate path in life.
Peace out
This print is sick!!! it’s based on the original canvas from Nick Walkers Los Angeles show last year….comparing Walker to Banksy is like saying anyone who stencils is Banksy which is retarded…Walkers style is completely his own. And as far as legal vs Illegal wall painting that argument has zero merit on so many levels I could write a book…The actual irony of it is that ALL of the Banksy murals in NY where not only paid for ad space, they weren’t even done by Banksy….and now that most of them are gone, because the rental space has expired…Nick Walkers east village massive mural painted by the man himself will be there for years to come. However it is worth noting that I love both Banksy and Walker and am just tired of such shallow ad hominem logic.
Take a look at the original canvas this print is based on and soak in the beauty you hater bitches…
