These Scholl Ads Don’t Stink

Have you ever seen a better ad visualization of smelly shoes than this—making stink lines out of the shoelaces is a goddamn good idea. These print ads by DDB New Zealand for Scholl Odour Attack shoe refreshener are so goofily simple, it fucking hurts. Cheap photo shoot. Cheap retouching. Golden idea. Stink lines! I love it. The only criticism I have is that the campaign is really only one execution and therefore it gets old quick. But you can run it to death for a year, and that’s all you need. And they perfectly illustrate one of my favorite career-long talking points: ANY idiot can make good ads. Ad school is a complete waste of your time and money. Jeez, I almost like my job today. Almost.

Cool visual. A really good idea.
Wait… are you calling New Zealanders idiots?
No. It came out wrong.
Do you even need retouching for this? Wires in the shoelaces would do the trick.
Retouching would probably actually be easier than wires.
On a completely unrelated note, all you need are some shoelaces, some straight pins, and a Bic and you have a perfectly serviceable blowgun.
