M.T.A. Readies Widespread Commuter Rape
In a move that is likely to piss off straphangers, drivers, and Long Island Railroad commuters alike, the M.T.A. will likely approve an across the boards increase on fares and tolls. Riding the subway will cost $2.50 a pop and if that alone isn’t enough to unsettle you, they’ve also announced huge cuts in service. So you’ll basically be paying more for less in this tragic transit comedy. Where’s the populist outrage? Someone needs to bus in those pissed off people fuming at the A.I.G. bonus thing and get them to start scare mobbing the M.T.A. |NYT|

@shaddap. Ugh! Comments like yours annoy me. No need to call anyone an idiot. After all, you're the one who can't do math well enough to realize that a 50 cent increase sucks for people dependent on the subway. Use it twice a day five days a week and that's an extra $20 a month, over $200 extra a year minimally. For those of us not rolling in excessive disposal income, it does make life harder.
Shaddap. That's not the point. The M.T.A. is terribly mismanaged and if you don't have a problem with getting charged more for less, that's your prerogative. Before they had to plead with the public for an increase and justify it with better service, cleaner stations etc…
