Spineless Artist Michael D’Antuono Can’t Handle ‘The Truth’

After hyping his sorta-controversial painting of President Obama wearing a crown of thorns, artist Michael D’Antuono has decided not to show it in Union Square as planned. Why the sudden change of heart? Death threats? A fatwa? Nope, just some bitchy emails according to the LA Times prompting D’Antuonoe to cave: “I canceled the showing out of respect for religion. It was not meant to offend so many people.” The act of not showing it is more offensive than the so called offensive painting. Also, if he’s going to side with the make believers, hopefully they’ll pray for what he really needs: some balls. |Gothamist|

Wow, you’re an angry person.
Finally, an artist who respects people of faith instead of trampling on thier beliefs. Finally, a liberal who is genuine and not hypocritical about not being intollerant. Most liberals scream “intolerance” when one of their sacred cows is trashed, but rarely show the same respect for people who’s views (such as conservatives/religious people), differ from their own.
I think some of the articles written about Michael D’Antuono around the country and on the internet and comparing what he did with others who are depicting Obama as the Christ, or as we know that the Christ has already come, Jesus Christ, this being the Anti-Christ, Obama would have to be Jewish. Well, his father definately is not. But his mother could very well be and that would make him Jewish. What a better disguise can you get that a black Christ. We have a black Christ in Central America and you can see him in Esquipulas, Guatemala. But no one would suspect a black being a Jew and his disguise is perfect. So his painting by Michael D’Antuono may not be so far off at all. It is repulsive to those of us who believe in Jesus Christ, but just as the Jews rejected Jesus the true Christ, we reject the Anti-Christ, whom Jean Dixon predicted back in the sixties was born into this world. That prediction was just off by six months to Obama’s birth date. And check out where he was born. No birth certificate available, nor the birth certificate of his mother, who has her’s in a vault in Hawaii. Why, Jewish but not to be known to the world? And the articles that talk about the Judeo-Christians being offended with Michael’s painting, forget that bosh lie of a century. Don’t fool yourselves, Jews are the most anti-christ people on the earth. They can’t be placed as offended by this painting. They love this painting. And they are creating the financial crisis that is plunging us into world domination-world government much accelerated at this time, and now the have spread a swine epidemic around the world to force us into more socialism and eventually one world Jewish government. Yes, this painting may be more revealing and truthful than you think.
What type of crap are you spewing? I’m Jewish so since i don’t believe in your religion so that makes me evil? Aren’t conservitives suppose to be tolerant im a republican and a member of the N.R.A. so I guess I should pick up a shot gun and start shooting people because I’m evil. Anyway i think that picture is disgusting not only because of the religeous connotations but it depicts obama as basically a god instead of the liberal socialist he is.
all i can say is you are a class a idiot
damn, i know a shit ton of jews, but i’ve never met a redneck gunslingin’ conservative Jew! and damn, whoever wrote that long ass ignorant anti-christ shit is fucking slow haha
sTOP DOWNING THIS BEAUTIFUL PAINTING…
I believe it depicts obama not as a god but as the “savior”, every body believes or hopes! that he will save the economy, bring peace, solve global warming thus restoring world order and US domination. I think its a great painting especial for all the criticism and debate it creates.
Wow… people.
I’m going to go ahead and drop my 2 cents in the pot:
• As a Christian, I’m not at all offended by this, nor should I be, as the religious symbolism is used to clearly illustrate a valid (albeit pretty pedestrian) viewpoint shared by many people, and not to mock Christ. Any well adjusted individual who is a true subscriber to the Christian faith, shouldn’t get their panties in a bunch because of this. If this does trouble you, I’d advise you to take an earnest look into your spiritual life, and make an effort to get to know the true nature of Christ. A course in humanities couldn’t hurt either.
• As an artist, I have to agree with the people who would be disappointed in D’Antuono’s decision to back down and not show the painting. The ability to convey an idea shouldn’t be stifled because it could offend people who might not ‘get it’. I feel the artist failed himself and anyone who believes in the notion of free speech. The believers who would protest this image should consider what would have been if Christ had caved to the ruling majority who were up in arms because of his teachings. I wouldn’t think they’d need to be reminded that He defied the law makers, people who called Him a heretic/blasphemer, and death threats throughout his entire campaign. One thing about the Christian faith is that subscribers tend to lose focus on being good stewards of Jesus’ love and teachings, and end up becoming a legalistic mob much like the Pharisees of His time.
• Don’t get me wrong- I can agree with Tracy, where most free speech/tolerance issues tend to be very one-sided, I just don’t think this particular situation required such a gesture. If even after learning the meaning of this painting, you’re still offended- don’t go look at it. Problem solved. The self-serving idea of every individual in this world wanting to go through life unoffended is going to be the end of civilization as we know it.
• M. Donado- you sound more like a follower of David Icke rather than a follower of Christ. It’s people like you who give true followers of the faith a bad rap. Thanks for taking the time to spread racist/anti-semetic, conspiracy theory rhetoric, all in the name of Jesus. Way to go.
…And that’s my rant. Play me out Keyboard cat (Lame- I know. I just needed something to end on).
