Rap Magazine’s Hip Hop Blog List Catches Bad Vibes

After scooping Vibe and posting their list of the Top 50 Hip Hop Blogs we knew there would be some controversy about who did and didn’t make the cut. Besides the collective disbelief that ThisIs50 was not included among other notables (Ill Roots, RealTalkNY), the biggest source of controversy by far was the #10 spot secured by Rap Radar. Many bloggers quickly pointed out that Vibe EIC, Danyel Smith, just happens to be married to Rap Radar’s EIC, Elliott Wilson and cried foul naturally. But what baffled us more than the obvious relationship angle is the lead time.
Most mags like Vibe need a minimum of 6-8 weeks to churn out a book and with the Eminem issue slated for a May release, that would mean that the staff was finishing up content, like the blog list, back in late March – early April. Now if Rap Radar officially launched around March 9th, that would mean it was only live for like 2 weeks before it was awarded the #10 spot. Really?
Now we’re not knocking RR. There’s no doubt that they’re breaking good stories and cranking out relevant content, but Vibe’s finger was a little too heavy on pushing the co-sign button after just a few weeks, when there are other sites who have been in the game before the internet was even on rap’s radar.

yeah this list is kinda wack, they don't even have http://100Stax.com listed!!
while I hear what you're saying about RR making the list, I don't understand why there's all this shock at ThisisCurtis not being included. that site is notorious for copying and pasting posts from other blogs, with no link back and no attribution and then acting like they don't know what they did wrong when they get called on it.
for example, I am fucking amazed that they bothered to credit you here:
http://www.thisis50.com/profiles/blogs/rap-magazi…
i think the majority of the "shock" of thisis50 not making the list is that it is essentially a rappers blog… like the whole "why is kanye on there and not 50? cudi even." i dont know.
to my knowledge, thisis50 gets more traffic than any other hip-hop website, let alone blogs. i might be wrong on that however. sure that doesnt define "hot", but it seems as though it would play a role in their list.
they also included worldstar which is equally notorious for stealing video links.
just my two cents.
speaking from a consumer/blog surfer perspective, alot of the controversy and outrage could (and can still be) cleared up by stating how they decided what blogs made the list or a list or the criteria that they went off of for choosing the top 50. Atleast people can have a solid base in which to judge and critique the list by.
it's not what good blogs didn't made the list, it's what wack blog are on the list. What did kid cudi do to give us information? it's just because he is a "famous" guy? http://djpremierblog.blogspot.com/ should even be on it, he releases exclusive information. Such people should be on it because they work for it…
eskay: I don't doubt that they flout protocols and might be a little shady when it comes to appropriating content, but despite their inability to link properly, some would still argue that ThisIs50 is a relevant enough blog to warrant placement on the list.
I just wanted know why Thisis50.com didn't make the list? No further comment!!!!
