Legendary Graffiti Crew Denounces Legendary Graffiti Writer
In Style Wars, the 1983 landmark graffiti documentary (2:15 mark), CAP MPC says, “I’m not a graffiti writer, I’m a graffiti bomber.” In the film and in real life, he positioned himself as a graffiti villain indiscriminately painting over the paintings and pieces of other writers. Now, over twenty years after his name became synonymous with crossing out and starting graffiti beef, CAP is being disowned by the Bronx-based crew he repped all these years. Morris Park Crew dedicates their latest newsletter to denouncing CAP : “We never did and still don’t approve, admire, or respect, but oppose what CAP did and what he stood for.” The 8-page attack on the “jealous toy” continues:
It’s sad that under his assumed direction, MPC became known as nothing but a disrespectful bombing crew intent on destroying other writer’s work to gain fame, because they themselves, like CAP, had no artistic talent.
…In MPC, CAP was considered a talentless writer, though an ambitious one. By evidence of his “art” work in 2009, he hasn’t progressed any in 30 years….This fact implicated him—which many have suspected all along—with the real reason he went over people: he was a toy who wanted fame but couldn’t burn writers like BLADE, COMET, KELL, SKEME, DONDI, MIN and a host of others to achieve it—not because he was taking his boys’ back, as he claimed.
In fact, MPC had no serious beef with any writers or crews before CAP started indiscriminately going over people.

In analyzing the manifestation MPC from a neighborhood graffiti club to a world wide known organization based arguable on the fame of a rogue member whose legacy and fame has dominated International graffiti landscape like know one could have imagined thirty years ago. I ve always seen MPC has having two chapters in its history or two sub-divisions. One being the original core members like Slip, Colt, Cal, Ace V, Cid, Rock161, Vile I sure there was a half a dozen more -who built the foundation for MPC and were some what older writers and obliged the traditional Graffiti sub-culture rules and were not caught up with wrecking havoc on the rest of the writers on the line, Cap would emerge later along with a second wave of impressionable younger writers, like Rook, AD, Caban, PJ, who followed Cap route by bombing recklessly with no regard or respect of other writer work. This would eventually lead to the implosion of two’s and the fives. There where different ideologues under one banner which would eventually lead to self-destruction. MPC’s biggest legacy is also it’s biggest detriment that being Cap, Sarge 34 but it cannot be denied his international fame brought on by the movie has transcended the who crew, Cap and MPC are married to each other forever so you guy should all learn to live together

Paws, your feedback was excellent and much appreciated because, it spelled out the honest truth furthermore you are totally correct in your statements about foolish pride being one of the core problems in building a strong foundation for the future, because pride will be in the way in solving our numerous issues that have dominated the soul of this crew for decades and moving beyond our turbulent past,—- no more blind nostalgia for a by gone era but an honest evaluation of who we are something should be written articulating the goals of MPC and roles of it’s members so we can move towards them in an organize and tranquil manner

Cap didn’t do anything wrong and this whole thing is stupid and is nothing more than a conflict of interest. Cap wanted MPC to be one thing and Slip wanted MPC to be another. Cap covered everybody who covered ANY MPC work because he wanted MPC to dominate and rule the trains. Slip didn’t care if they did or not which is why he let Blade and Comet cover their work without any sort of fight. Cap cared because he wanted MPC to only be covered by other MPC members because he wanted to rule the trains. When you want to rule the trains, and you feel that in order to take over the trains, you need to make sure your crew isn’t covered by anyone or make sure your crew is the only one on the trains, then of course you’re gonna cover those who cover your crew members. It’s as simple as that, writers have done that for years, especially in my area. The problem was that you had Slip and his MPC guys who didn’t want to take over the trains so they weren’t as upset over being covered, and you had Cap and his guys who were the complete opposite. So, who’s wrong? Nobody! You can’t knock Slip for not caring about having all the trains, but you can’t knock Cap for wanting all of them. If you want to be humble and just do a few things on the trains, that’s cool, but if you want to be big and cover all the trains that’s cool too. There ain’t no real rules to this shit. Some of you guys need to stop taking this shit so seriously. This is kid stuff and some of you try to make it sound serious.
Plus, keep this in mind. A lot of writers were going over eachother back then. Cap and MPC weren’t the only ones going over people. Even Seen was going over dudes out of spite.
Writers lay down low for years and because they’ve been gone for so long nobody knows their name, then they want to act like it’s Cap and his guys’ fault that they don’t have fame. Des, Cope, Mkay, and Cap get recognition and business and they are all MPC, and are even down with their old rivals at times. So who exactly is disrespecting MPC as the newsletter claims? nobody. Cap was bombing and shit for years and now he’s doing canvas work and making money with his old cross out rivals. Slip was doing nothing for almost thirty years and now he doesn’t get as much recognition and thinks it’s Cap’s fault? that’s low.

Thoughts And Closure On Issue #2

Before we move onto our 3rd issue, I’d like to touch on some of the responses — or lack of — from our last newsletter. Out of 4, 700 people that read it, we received only ten direct responses! Two I received personally from PJAY UA and TERROR 161. Interestingly, though, a majority of responses were left on other sites. The writers who responded, with the exception of a half dozen or so of our own members, refused to use their real names! If this was 1980 I could understand. But it’s not; It’s 2009 —29 years later. Come on people!
I have to admit that the last MPC newsletter was triggered by my anger provoked by CAP’s disloyalty and infantile behavior. But it was an MPC newsletter, yes, for the entire world to see. But nonetheless, you won’t see that topic in any future publication. This brings me to my next point.
I was surprised that out of 4, 700 people, only a handful had come to CAP’s defense. You might find this strange, but that bothers me because these are the same people — with an exception of a few — that acted like they had CAP’s back. Robbie if you’re reading this you might want to take a look at that fact. They act like they’re in MPC, but really they used him for their own protection and benefit while he was in his prime. Today those same people haven’t done shit for him. I spoke to a lot of people on the phone who said things like, “Slip, MPC means a lot to me!” “Slip a lot of people called me about that newsletter!” Well what did they say? I would like to know because none of them have the balls to say it publicly or privately! Over 4, 700 people read the newsletter, but no comments?
I’m especially disappointed in all the crews that are our peers, the same ones that run some of these graffiti sites today but haven’t documented MPC history accurately. At best they have some bullshit blurb about CAP going over people, at worst that we’re a bunch of racists. But nothing about being one of the largest graff crews in New York and now in existence for over 30 years? Are you people fucking kidding me?
Then there are people (not all, but most) who say, “I’m in MPC.” But they’re full of shit! All through the years, and even now, they use CAP’s actions (you know the one’s I’m talking about) and reputation from back in the day to benefit themselves when it’s convenient by saying I was down with CAP and MPC. But you’ll never see those same people put MPC up when they’re piecing with other people or crews! But they’ll pump MPC proud on my MySpace page or in a personal email. You know who I’m talking about. And, of course, they rep the crew when they’re standing next to CAP for a pretty pic to gain legitimacy — or, my personnel favorite, when they go over someone! Yo, if you’re down with MPC, then put it up, or stop being the fucking phony you are!
In closing I’d like to say that I don’t have time to dispute all the bullshit that’s on the internet. But, hopefully we’re one step closer to not only telling the history of MPC, but also the late 70s-early-80s New York City graff scene from our experiences and perspective. As some of you know I don’t bullshit. I don’t need to. I say this because I’m fortunate to have and proud of the fact that I lived with TRACY 168 and BILLY 167; I bombed trains with BLADE and COMET; I knew SEEN UA before he became “The God Father of Graffiti”; and I started Morris Park Crew — yes, the crew that CAP 1 from Style Wars was in. So to those of you who embellish your history to the point of embarrassment, and say you started writing in so and so year, and you did such and such: stop that shit!
The intention of the Newsletter was to get people involved. But, considering the last topic, I understand the lack of. Some of the future topic’s we’ll cover on the blog will be things like:
* Who do you think are the most influential pioneer writers of all time and why? Examples: CORNBREAD, TAKE 183, PHASE 2, CLIFF 159, TRACY 168, SUPERKOOL 223, FLINT 707, etc.
* What pioneer writer was one of the 1st to do murals with aerosol for money?
* What writer or crew has taken the art form to new levels? How?
* Who produced the best whole cars? Why? Examples: LEE, DONDI, SEEN, BLADE, etc.
* Who had the best style of lettering? Why? Examples: TKID 170, DUSTER UA, PART TDS, SKEME TMT, SHY 147, DONDI CIA, etc.
* Who are some of the most over looked writers in history and why?
* Who were the best partners? Examples: TEAN and KADE TMT, BLADE and COMET TC5, DONDI and DURO CIA, REVOLT and ZEPHYR RTW, etc.

Here is some feedback to some of your questions, as far as influencial writer I would have to go with Tracy 168 for two reasons Tracy’s personal style influence most of the writers in my neighborhood, I call it the Tracy 168 asthetic– his thick interacting geometric lettering, choices of hues , and his uage of perspective had a significant role in many writers development in the late seventies and earily eighties, futhermore Tracy was one of the first writers to utilize his work on commerical projects. As for being the first writers to get paid for murals, it would have to be all those writers that went to Art and Design, they always got way to much hype i felt because they went school in Manhattan, people like: Crash, Futura 2000 and Lady Pink, all they did was gallery shit– As far as crew to writer to next level I think it would have to be RTW– they were able to were two Hats, one one hand they did fantastic burners and on the other they bomb relentlesly –the defination of what graffitti a true writer , balanced. The best whole cars, top to bottom, I remember on the #4 train was Mitch 77– and he might be your over looked writer as welll, the guy was up and had style, he did this one piece that was by Yankee Stadium that was there for years it was a all around classic piece by a tremendous artist.
There are an infinite amount of examples of how and why people hate. Back in the early 80’s in New York City, there was a talentless graffiti writer named Cap MPC. Cap was the biggest hater in graffiti ever. He was jealous of all the hot burners and whole cars that guys like Kel 1st, Seen Tc5, Min-One, Skeme and Dez used to produce. Secretly I suspect he wanted to burn, but it wasn’t happening for him. So instead he went over the burners with ugly ass throw-ups and destroyed countless whole cars in order to get fame.
