Circuses are just wrong. Between the terrifying clowns parading around rings of animals doing very unanimal things or badly hurt performers quickly being carted off as to not spoil the fun, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey always seemed like a creepy operation. And that’s just coming from the stands. The cruelty going on backstage is far more horrific as this new investigation by PETA indicates. The animal rights group infiltrated the den of torture and shot the evilest footage on earth of circus handlers walloping elephants in the face with bullwhips as well as some tiger torture. See the awful video below that will likely convince you to never set foot under the big top again.
As any northern city slicker knows, it ain’t too swift a move to hightail it through any locale south of the Mason-Dixon line. Sheriff Buford just might make an example of you, pretty boy, and put you on the chain gang for a spell. After watching this spot, I know I won’t be speeding through, or even visiting, Tennessee anytime ever. Apparently, summertime in the Volunteer State is a big ol’ drunk-drive-a-thon, and, well, the local fuzz have had enough. As part of a program called “100 days of summer heat,” the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) recently started running this here piece of police porn statewide. Read more »

Preparations are underway at Deitch Projects for a Dash Snow exhibition in honor of the late artist. GLACER blasted the front of the 76 Grand Street gallery with a SACER fire extinguisher tag, while SEEDR hit the roof with a spraypainted portrait of the prolific graffiti writer. Anticipated to open from July 23rd to August 15th, the show will feature photos and videos of Snow alongside his own artwork, pieces created by friends in his memory, and an open wall for public expression.

The Environmental Protection Agency has a lot of explaining to do after the state of New Jersey announced it will be permanently scrapping an ecological plan to use out of commission NYC subway cars as offshore reef building material. Although the federal entity estimated that the sunken trains would last 25-30 years, in some cases they’ve barely managed to stay intact for a few months. The Garden State drowned a total of 48 subway cars and according to an EPA spokesperson, “Out of 48, 46 were destroyed.” |PressofAC|

The varied collection of weapons photographed by Simon Menner share one trait: they were all used to kill. With permission from Berlin police, the German photographer shot the grisly murder weapons: rusty knives, old guns, nail-studded clubs, a brass statue, and other improvised bludgeons. Check the photos above and “Murder Weapons 2009” for the full spectrum of killing devices.
Madonna and artist Marilyn Minter are “planning a collaboration” according to the Daily News, but nobody knows what it is. Minter guesses the 50-year-old pop star wants to be photographed or videotaped, presumably with a face full of slobber and jelly similar to the “Green Pink Caviar” video she bought as a backdrop to her “Sticky and Sweet” tour.
Rap kingpin and Auto-Tune murderer, Jay-Z, appeared on the Tim Westwood show, giving the UK radio personality a bunch of items for the Hip Hop blogs to talk about. He spit some lyrics from one his new joints, spoke about the whole Chris Brown getting banned from the BET Awards rumor, and threw a pithy comment towards rapper The Game. Here’s what he said about the alleged banning of the Rihanna-beating singer from the fake Michael Jackson tribute. Basically, he says it’s all bullshit and was having fun just “watching” it all unfold: Read more »
Despite the billions of dollars worth of high tech equipment that agencies like NASA employ to track comets and other space shit that could destroy life as we know it, an amateur astronomer in Australia was credited with discovering the almost Earth-sized dark spot on Jupiter’s south pole over the weekend. The scar indicates that something very massive hit the largest planet in our solar system. Although they missed out on the original impact, experts at NASA and countless other space gazing facilities are now training their sights on the gas giant, hoping something else pops off. (According to National Geographic: “The dark spot is in the upper right of the above picture because the planet appears upside down.”) |National Geographic|
A pack of sexist baboons are attacking women farmers in Kenya and destroying their maize crops. Like a bunch of bitches, this particular group of primates are only attacking the females and not “men who wear trousers.” [Note: before you click beware of autoplay audio] |BBC|
