Shipping the Poor Out of NYC

cheap-flights-to-new-york Instead of doling out money to keep poor families in the city’s “expensive shelter system,” Mayor Bloomberg has devised a cheaper method: one-way tickets! In the past two years, NYC has paid for more than 550 families to leave. |NYT|

  1. why the negative spin in this post? it seems as though most of your pieces have this negative connotation lately.

do you guys have a problem with this policy? it seems like a good idea to me. if you do have a problem with it, why not explain?

would you prefer the city spend $36k/year for each family to live in a crappy homeless shelter, or spend the money to send them somewhere else, with their family, where they'll be better off?

man, i don't know about this blog.

  2. Alx: What negative spin are you referring to?

Also, I don't have a problem with this policy. The City becoming a gated community is inevitable!

  3. homeless

id prefer the city spend $1000 a month on a crappy studio apt,

thats $12K a year, do the math, the idea of a shelter system is not working when the cost of "shelter" is more expensive than regular rent,
