The Bat Cave, that old power plant along the Gowanus Canal, is no longer broadcasting anti-corporate messages to Brooklyn. The rooftop roller declaring “No More Corporate Bullshit! Fuck Wall St.” has been targeted, selectively painted over while other graffiti remains. At this provides a clean canvas for a new message from Booker, or anyone else with something to say. |Brownstoner|

Jay-Z: Bigger Than Hip Hop, Skyscrapers

Hip Hop mogul, rapper, and September 11th opportunist Jay-Z scored the October cover of XXL to help hype his hotly awaited album, Blueprint 3. Hov discusses a variety of topics, including why he’s better than everyone else in the game: “But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that… I believe in a lot of things. I believe that ‘SportsCenter’ is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it.” He’s also got the t-shirt.

As bicycling booms across the country, so does theft, but there are an increasing number of websites and social media tools to get your wheels back. Still, the best way to win the war against bike thieves is by not using shitty locks from streetwear brands, not letting scheisters take a test ride, locking up both wheels, and better yet, bringing your ride inside. |WSJ|

This Cigarette Tastes A Little ‘Tanky’

South America’s all-out creative war on smoking continues. Previously, F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi in Brazil made a—Cig Heil!—13,000 cigarette Hitler. Then Oglivy & Mather in Lima constructed an incredible 15,000-butt billboard. Now, on behalf of ADESF, Neogama/BBH in São Paulo spent nine months (according to their press notes) constructing these digital 3-D war dioramas dramatizing the invasive power of smokes. The headline, translated from Portuguese: “More than 4,700 toxic substances against you. Stop smoking.” You got some tanks and catapults and what looks like a futuristic Mad Max-like battle scene. Sorry, but this strained metaphor is fighting a vicious battle against relevancy. But they sure are cool looking, though. Barfing pug owner Chrissie Brodigan rejected a plea deal offering to dismiss charges for being “loud and boisterous” so that she’ll still “be allowed to sue the city for the wrongful arrest.” We’re still wondering when someone will prove the existence of Viane Delgado, the mysterious unfindable Post witness who solely alleged Brodigan lobbed anti-Semitic slurs during her arrest. |Gothamist|

The Standard doesn’t just encourage guests to bare it all in front of the hotel’s floor to ceiling windows overlooking the High Line. Staff members are also encouraged to join in the publicity stunt, “stripping down and posing provocatively” for the crowds and cameras. |NYP|
