Upon reading my comments, I realized something may seem unclear. I just want to say that I do NOT nor have I EVER worked with or for the ASPCA. My posting comes from genuine concern.

In regards to The MYTH's comment, I could not AGREE more. You really represented the logical side of this argument (that surprisingly has been neglected on this blog) in an eloquent and factual way. To add to that, I would also question where the anger is for Fabian Henderson, Oreo's owner. Why were you angry protesters not outside the courthouse when he received a mere slap on the wrist and small fine? Maybe you should concern yourselves with trying to change the legislation that categorizes dogs, cats and other domesticated animals under the column of livestock. That's right, they get about the same rights as your average Cornish game hen.
As I'm sure you're all aware, many dogs are euthanized because of behavioral and aggression issues and this is public knowledge. However, the media blew this story up so much because of the vicious act on Henderson's part and that IS the only reason why there is so much debate. Let us not villainize the ASPCA which does extraodinary work every day to rescue, rehabilitate and reintroduce abused animals into human's often dangerous hands. The AC&C as well as The Humane Society, however, ARE organizations that put animals down based on SPACE AVAILABILITY which is, I think we can all say, a crime. The little rat who worked for the ASPCA and must have had their panties in a bunch over one thing or another and saw their inside knowledge of Oreo's story as advantageous to them, shame on you. You have lost complete sight of what your job was and should be gravely ashamed. I do not think it is fair to open our ever outspoken mouths when we have no idea what its like to work for an animal organization that sees such extreme cases. I know for a fact that had you all represented yourself in a peaceful, respectful manner, a behaviorist from the ASPCA would have been more than happy to discuss the situation.
We need to get over this obsession with life and death that we have in this society. Oreo was clearly a tortured soul who was beyond help by the time she arrived in safe hands. Her life was unfair to force her to live so that we wouldn't have to think of death and all the negative connotations we have come to associate it with. The dog is finally at PEACE, no longer in pain. The trauma she endured went beyond her broken legs and bones, she was still a prisoner of fear and nobody deserves to live like that.

What a waste of time. Seriously. There are so many dogs out there that are completely non-aggressive and in serious need of help. If you read the news at all, and watched news reports regarding Oreo you would have heard that there were multiple attempts to give the unfortunately abused dog therapy but instead of getting better, Oreo became progressively more aggressive.

Animal rescue groups need to take their heads out of their asses and help those that can be helped instead of bending over unnecessarily backward and wasting precious resources on lost causes. There are millions of euthanized dogs every year and a majority of them are sweet, friendly, and desperate for a new home. Oreo had a sad life and is in a better place now.

Pets Alive needs to focus their energy on Pet Stores selling puppy mill dogs like the new store Pet Fancy on Columbus between 87 and 88th. Protest on Saturday from 1 - 3. There's a cause to rally for.
