Hey you know those freaking annoying assholes who set up shop with fold-out tables and giant water jugs and implore you to give “just one penny” to help the homeless? Yeah, well, they, the United Homeless Organization, are a joke, just as you probably already knew, but now the state attorney general’s office has finally recognized them as a sham and is dropping the hammer accordingly. Freshjive T-Shirt Parodies Obama, Shepard Fairey, Freshjive

Although Freshjive has taken a subtler approach to their branding, trading textual logos for a black box icon, the same unfortunately can’t be said for their clothes. For a t-shirt commentary on “how the Obama administration is maintaining continuity with its disgraced predecessor,” the streetwear company took a ham-fisted approach, clarifying their washed out, faded copy of Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” portrait with the words “is fading fast.” Designers take note: when your message is a manipulation of the most iconic image of Obama, and possibly any President ever, there’s really no need for superfluous text, which like explaining a joke, ruins it.
Replicating a common street sight, Malachi Farrell has created a series of sculptures using shoes to symbolically ask whether we’re hanging by a thread in this recession. The Paris-based artist took inspiration for the display from the Abel Meeropol poem turned Billy Holiday song, “Strange Fruit,” about the 1930s lynching of two black men in Indiana. With lights, motors and speakers, the animatronic footwear are rigged to open their soles and play Peter Sellers’ version of “She Loves You,” which you can hear for yourself at Thrust Projects.

An Australian man fought off a murderous kangaroo that was trying to drown his dog in a pond. No really! They happened upon the sleeping marsupial in some town relatively close to Melbourne, surprising it, reports the UK’s Metro. After a quick chase, the trio ended up in the water where the thuggish kangaroo was reportedly holding the canine under. The man tried to free the dog, but was slashed by the beast’s claws. Injured, but not broken, he fought back, elbowing it in the neck, which worked. The attacker hopped away and the dog lived. |Metro|

Twelve years ago a 41 year-old California man who was put up for adoption in the 1960s set out to find his biological parents.
