Hoping To Avoid Controversy, J.P. Morgan Creates It Instead
Did you vote for your favorite charity via J.P. Morgan Chase & Company’s Facebook contest? Us either, but if you know someone that did, it was a total fraud. At least three groups who were ranking “among the top 100 vote-getters” were disqualified by last minute changes in the rules reports the New York Times.
Students for Sensible Drug Policy, the Marijuana Policy Project and Justice for All were banished from the contest and the chance to win millions of dollars that the federally bailed out bank was pledging. The organizations all claim that Chase didn’t want to associate with them and regardless of their socially-connected popularity, were suddenly dropped from the running.
Despite repeated pleas by the nonprofits, Chase said they will not be releasing the final vote tallies or tell them why they were disqualified. According to the Times, their “eligibility rules make it clear that the bank can disqualify any participant.” So there! Still, they might want to consider changing their tag line, because the whole “You Decide What Matters” is both tragically ironic and as MPP notes, complete bullshit! |MPP|
