We speak as though our opinions are confirmed facts, eagerly spreading malaise, bitterness, and contempt in a world that is already saturated with these and worse. A little more compassion and charity for each other, expressed by each one of us in our own way, would contribute to creating a better society from which we´d all benefit. He suffered the worst form of multiple sclerosis as a result of Agent Orange poisoning in Vietnam, and was at the stage where in a few more days he might not have been able to squeeze the trigger of the pistol that ended his life. Anyone who could joke about this is a sick person indeed, and probably has not suffered enough in life to identify with another's pain, or seen hope at an impossible distance. Only an insensitive and ill-bred child could find something amusing in such a sad thing. Life is an exquisite gift, and only the inability to endure more pain can induce one to throw it off. As I live in North Beach, San Francisco and have had discussions about suicide with the U.S. Coast Guard who tends to suicides and attempted suicides off the Golden Gate bridge, where according to them only ten (10) have survived.
