Tag Judge Saldaña With Your Outrage!

amarisela Yesterday, news of a Texas judge’s decision to imprison a teenage vandal for eight years without parole caused quite a stir, with most people agreeing that the punishment was way too extreme. Judge Marisela Saldaña clearly didn’t dole out such an egregious sentence to cover the cost of cleaning up the $7,300 of damage Sebastian Perez caused, after all, his incarceration will run Texas taxpayers than $140,000. And that price tag doesn’t include the considerable public expense and burden of a four-time felon lacking credible experience or job prospects, which is what Perez will be when he’s scheduled for release at age 26 after spending nearly a third of his life locked up.

No, this sentence is about making an example of the 18-year-old and a bad one at that. Earlier this year, the District Attorney’s office for Corpus Christi adopted a policy offering nothing less than maximum sentences to adult vandals, hoping to make the point, “If you spray, you pay.” District Attorney Carlos Valdez claims, “there’s deterrence in the message,” but when have tougher penalties ever effectively stopped vandalism? Pretty much never. Whether it’s artistic or strictly for fame, graffiti can’t be eradicated, only managed. Ludicrous prison terms more effectively embolden writers with added notoriety and ensure those who are caught only get an extended criminal education. Though Judge Saldaña believes eight years will reform Perez’s life, it’s more likely to ruin it irreparably.

Whatever your views on this sentence, you should consider sharing them, not only here but also with Judge Marisela Saldaña who has surprisingly been commended for offering “understanding and compassion,” as well second chances, to offenders. She conveniently offers up her Facebook page and Twitter account in addition to other means of getting in touch:

JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW, ON DECEMBER 17, 2009, THE ATTORNEY FOR MR. PEREZ FILED A MOTION FOR RECONSIDERATION, TELLING THE JUDGE THAT HER SENTENCE NEEDED TO BE CHANGED PER THE LAW, AND THE JUDGE WAS FORCED TO LOWER THIS YOUNG MAN'S SENTENCE FROM 8 TO 2 YEARS. JESUS IS LORD!

    2 years is still bullshit.

  4. Thanks for pointing that out, LK.

8 years was a death sentence. He probably will be killed with two. I bet he never gets out alive, His blood is on her hands. He was a first time felon he doesnt deserve that.

I can't understand why anyone would want such a harsh punishment on such a young person that has already shown signs of having learned a lesson. I was once arrested for having two pocket knives in my car while at school. I was cited with felony charges. They didn't stick of course, but for this kid they did. Felonies ruin your life. While I was waiting to go to court they were on my record. It was impossible for me to get a job. It's insane that she'd even consider giving him 8 years. That would have ruined his life. She probably considers this a service to the country. Paint can be covered up. Nearly a decade of a young man's life behind bars can never be given back. Two years is better, but still too long. I think having him work with a vandalism clean up team would be a good punishment. Probation, fees, and community service. If he did it again, then maybe give him some time…. don't just throw a kid's life a way because he made some careless actions.

I think Judge Marisela Saldana is a bad judge she is getting carried away on the long time she is giving inmates. Why is she doing this is trying to act like she is God he is the only one that can judge sins. Judge Marisela Saldana people make mistake and your sending innocent people to prison that have never been there before . What do you get out of this money and some kind of high you suck as a judge. Does it turn you on being a judge. One day you will have to answer to God what you have done to a lot of offenders that were innocent. I hope you can live with yourself wait what Iam I saying you have no heart. God have mercy on your soul.

She is one of hundreds of bad judge, and attorneys. This was by design and federal money for a national :"clean sweep", the media added to increase the reactions and overexaggerates to the public. Plea bargains are unconstitutional, The STATE vs is also unlawful and unconstitutional no victim seeing it or filing charges no crime. Pleas are generally coerced by masses frightening charges, lies to the defendent, bad attorneys. Read both the coast guard manual pg 6 and the Lawyers guild, they are a communist oathed organization and lawyers oath to support the court not their clients, it is right in their manuals. The increase of victimizing for profit with the jails/prisons/courts, mental health frauds is at an all time high. A matter like this is a community cry to seek out what is missing to offer their youth and what "problems may be present they are "messaging to the county". Do your youth get taken by CPS, trafficked for porn, pedophiles, used to deliver drugs, incest high ? public official, judge, attorney and agency corruption ? .
