Sure, taxing medical weed is a good start and ensures that sick people can get their medicine, but how about the rest of the adults in California that just like to smoke it for fun? Why aren’t their voices being heard? Well actually they are and the Times took a look at the flurry of activity that’s currently taking place to fully legalize the weed, so it can be taxed and regulated for recreational use like alcohol and tobacco. This is sure to not only generate a ton of revenue, but also help reduce the costs associated with its prohibition—which means less cool toys for law enforcement—but lots of weed (and money) for everyone else! |NYT|

In order to help local growers, we need a repeal of federal drug laws, which serve only to bolster street gangs, criminal syndicates and foreign competitors. The federal drug laws are unconstitutional anyway (and don't give me any of the "Commerce Clause" crap).
Right on- Park slope guy! At last someone recognizes what a behemoth the Federal Government has become. The Federal govt is WAY bigger than it was ever intended to be. The trouble is no one who has an ax to grind wants to stop the Feds' unconstitutional entry into every aspect of our individual lives. The right has the drug laws, and the left has abortion, neither one wants to put the Federal Pandora back in the box! Let's think about what our country was intended to be, not the supernanny our govt has become!
You know who is better equipped to fight gangs and criminal drug syndicates than the police, the DEA, and the FBI put together? I'll tell you. Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds. Legalize marijuana on a federal level and watch how quickly the Avon Barksdales and the Marlo Stanfields lose their corners to convenience stores and gas stations selling Marlboro Greens and Camel Weed Lights.
