Matches apparently being a foreign concept in India, roadside shops there all have some sort of cigarette lighting device hanging in them—usually an electrically-powered coil. So Courage India, a cancer patient recovery foundation in Mumbai, erected these subtle push-button lung lighters at a few local establishments. They look like a major fire code violation to me. Anyway, as more and more smokers use the device, the rubber (?) lungs become more and more blackened. Which is graphic and fairly clever and all, but…also quite helpful of them to provide such a handy push-button lighter. Which pretty much makes it a self-defeating device. But since Courage India is a cancer recovery—not prevention—organization, maybe that was the plan.
