Here I was running around most of the night doing errand-type stuff when I came home at 11:30 or so and turned on Letterman, totally unaware that he was about to drop an atom bomb on us all. The story in a nutshell: Dave’s done some bad things, including boning multiple nice ladies who work for him, and someone with knowledge of his proclivity for boning female employees approached him and demanded $2-million to keep quiet about. Letterman detailed how he went to the authorities, resulting in the blackmailer being arrested today, a person CBS is now saying was an employee of the network working on the 48 Hours program.

Says CBS:

CBS was made aware of an ongoing police investigation involving David Letterman and an employee at “48 Hours,” who was subsequently arrested yesterday on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree. CBS is cooperating fully with the authorities and the employee has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. Letterman addressed the issue during the show’s broadcast last night, and we believe his comments speak for themselves.
