An infamous Australian graffiti writer has dodged prison time for 37 counts of vandalism by going to work for the police. Noted as “one of the most significant graffiti artist[s] that’s been brought before the courts in many years,” 23-year-old Russell Orrie Fenn aka SOFLES plead guilty and received a suspended six year prison sentence. In exchange for his freedom, the Brisbane painter, who has apparently become a successful legitimate artist, must pay $14k in fines and continue community service such as working with the city’s graffiti task force to help them think like young vandals and “encourage them to take up legal forms of expression.” |The Courier-Mail|
