northwest airlines misses airport

Well here’s something to scare the beJesus out of you just as you prepare to board a flight this afternoon for a weekend away. Two Northwest Airlines pilots commanding a flight from San Diego to Minneapolis-St. Paul weren’t paying attention to what they were doing and overshot their destination considerably. Further, their failure to respond to “WTF?!” calls from air traffic controllers on the ground caused so much concern that fighter jets were enlisted to engage the aircraft in the event it’d been hijacked by dastardly terrorists.

Meanwhile, passengers on the plane had no clue anything had gone wrong until armed men stormed the plane after it finally landed.

As passengers prepared to leave, flight attendants told them to sit back down, Bjorlin said. Eventually, he and the others filed out, walking past security officials standing outside the closed cockpit door and still others on the jetway and at the gate.

“It looked like it was a big deal,” said Bjorlin of St. Michael, Minn.

No word at this time on any sort of official explanation as to what happened or what disciplinary action will be taken out on the pilots.

This is why I only fly on U.S. Airways planes piloted by Sully FYI.
