On Saturday night, an undercover cop fatally shot a 49-year-old Brooklyn man who was notorious for being a good guy and chasing away drug dealers from his family’s building at 370 Lafayette Avenue in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. Shem Walker allegedly confronted and then hit the plainclothes officer who was loitering on his stoop during one of those time wasting, ineffective, “buy” and “bust” operations. After a brief brawl police say the officer who was acting a “ghost” or lookout, let off two shots, striking the man once in the chest. This latest killing echoes the name of Patrick Dorismond, another black guy shot by undercover cops participating in a similar failed sting back in 2000.
The NYPD still hasn’t identified the shooter, but their PR flack, Paul Browne, was good enough to note that this was the first shooting the officer was involved in since joining the force seven years ago. |NYDN|
