A Texas teenager is going down as Corpus Christi’s “most prolific†and severely punished graffiti writer. 19-year-old Ralph Mirabal was sentenced yesterday to eight years in prison and a $5000 fine for a string of graffiti charges. After being arrested last summer for tagging “some 30 homes and businesses,†Mirabal agreed to a plea deal requiring restitution and joining the Army. He didn’t enlist and was reindicted on the original charge as well as two others since May. As part of the new sentencing agreement, Mirabal must serve a full two years before he is eligible for parole. |KrisTV|

So whats the deal 8 yrs or 2 yrs. Did it ever occur to the courts that if these guilty ones were to serve out there full sentence that they might not be inclined to commit the crime again.
Prolific is a fad term, everyones the most prolific when busted.
compare that sentence to other sentences
esp. older recidivists for drugs, burglary, robbery, rape, assaults etc.
in that town and maybe youll see that a 19yr old kid doing 8 years for graffiti is kind of…
DUMB!
on the other hand 8 years in jail or 8 years in iraq, ill take prison instead of getting my legs blown off in an injust invasion of iraq. 911 & WMD's my ass!
FREE KOMA: Everyday men beat their wives, rape babies, & murder yet get a slap on the hand, yet some are never even found. KOMA graffs a wall & is sent to prison for 8 years! Since when is talent a crime? It is a work of art.
FREEKOMA*
ha ha loser boy got pwned! he lied and cheated and now pays the price!!!!! graffiti is a crime not art and it is no better than poo out of a monkey's butt!
This is fucking rediculous. 8 Years for painting on some walls? Michael fucking Vick was in jail for 23 months for running a dog fighting empire, and this kid gets 8 years? Fuck this legal system, burn everything down.
It's not ridiculous at all. This kid was given a choice: enlist & pay restitution or go to jail for 8 years. He CHOSE to not enlist, therefore he CHOSE to go to jail. Michael Vick fulfilled the terms of his plea bargain. He paid his restitution. I'm not defending what he did, but enough of the persecuting this guy. He did his time, the time that was prescribed by law. He has a right to work his chosen profession & move on. Comparing these two crimes is asinine. #1 Vick's was a federal case, #2 this is Texas & #3 he violated the terms of his plea agreement.
You act like he was just painting murals on walls & people are mad at him for art. It's a destruction thing that defaces people's property. he's writing words on people's homes & businesses affecting their livelihood & their property values. It is no more art than a 3 year old writing on the walls of your home. I have no sympathy for this kid, he made his bed & now he must lie in it.
God you sound like a tool. I'll bet you've attended a police academy. Low level turd, though.
Graffitti could be an art, and it is, tagging buildings not- thats vadalism. Of course, being an owner of destroyed plaster can hurt. Just to make clear when reading your opinions. In our country, guys like this one are punished by so called "community services" and have to clean stuff like they do for days or months. It exists a lot of worst crimes to be punished by imprisoning as someone said before. Sorry for my English.
Greetings from central Europe..
thats stupid!!my buddy got caught also an all he got was two years probation and community service washin police cars!!8 years!?ridiculous!im not sayin he doesnt deserve to be punished im just saying he doesnt deserve to serve eight years of his life in prison for somethin like this!!
damn homie they got ya good.
Not 8 years, TWENTY FOUR. This kid is 19 years old, he hasn't even lived 24 years of his life. He did something wrong, but he will be 43 when he gets out of jail if he serves the full term. Wouldn't it be more sensible to enforce a punishment that perhaps this kid would learn from? How about simply paying the fine, cleaning up any graffiti he was charged with, and some community service, instead of throwing away a life, because no one gets healed of their vices in jail, no one learns anything in jail. Don't trust your government. 24 years for PAINT.
Rediculous. TEXAS USES PRISONS AS AN ECONOMICAL RESOURCE & THEY PREFER NON VIOLENT CRIMINALS (i.e. dwi, graffitti, drugs, etc.) BECAUSE THEY ARE EASYER TO HOUSE. SO LEGISLATURE INCREASES SENTENCES FOR PETTY CRIMES TO INCREASE EASY PROFITS. 8 years for writting on property when the same justice system convicts child molesters & sentences them to probation…. America.Whats wrong with us????
German artists Hera & Rusk's views on this so-called "justice".
Please, Texas, the military doesn't want your screwed up criminals.
THE TEXAN JUSTICE IS CRAZY!!! 8 YEARS FOR PAINTING???? PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THAT GRAFFITI IS ALSO ART. I LIKE TO WATCH IT ON THE WALL OF MY CITY.
I DO NOT LIKE TO WATCH ALL THE PUBLICITIES ON THE WALL, I DO NOT CHOOSE TO HAVE IT ON MY WALL. PLEASE PUT THE MARKETING MANAGERS OF ALL THE BIG COMPANIES WHICH WRITE ON MY WALL IN JAIL FOR 8 YEARS…
This is the most disgusting thing ive heard in awhile if this kid is not released im sure you have brought our great country just a bit farther to another armed conflict. There are allready 2% of our population in prison/jail or on probation. How much more will we take? How many more of our friends and family have to be carted off to some prison to live with murderers and rapists. Disturbing and DISGUSTING. Whats it going to take America 3%?5?10????
This is madness. Sure, there is a reason why we increase the degree of punishment when repeated offenses are involved, but 8 years in prison for doing $7,000 worth of damage (damage that could be fixed with a paint brush, no less)? There is no sane way to consider that justice. Even 2 years would be wildly excessive. Give the kid a month in juvie & make him pay to clean up the mess he made (plus court costs), but don't destroy his life because some walls & fences need a fresh coat of paint.
What I find most disturbing is not that he was sentenced to 8 years for graffiti, but that it was a consequence for NOT JOINING THE ARMY.
Pretty scary stuff…
i say BLAH BLAH BLAH "FUK THIS SHIT FUK THE SYSTEM" FREE KOMAAAAA FUKKN PIGS!!!!! o ya shakalakaboomboom
another art vandal crimanalized what a fukn shame keep your head up koma!
this is fukn bullshit what kinda of choice is makeing someone join the army or go to prison.so its either maybe get shot in iraq see horrible things or go to prison maybe get stabbed possibly raped and still see horrible things, the "justice" system is fukn bullshit in all reality hes going to come out worse then when he went in,iv seen it happen to many people
He got denied parole, he will be serving all 8years sadly, Free my boi Ralph aka KOMA!!!!!!! fck the system
What about all these white collar crime mother f……kers, that dont serve any time.Bush pardons Scooter Libby and this kid gets 8 YEARS FOR BULLSHIT.
Fuck this Freee Komaaa SRK, fuck the system if anything he made there property look better, they think we graff cause we like too be a**holes but naah they don't no why, we graff cause we wanna get a voice out there americas suppose to be a country runned by the people, and no they ignore us what has our country become fuck the system cause this is bullshit graffitis art and i bet they can't do what we do it's a way we can express ourselves and be heard by the government because they obviously ignore us and we actually have the balls to try and get our voice out there that's all i have too say this just pissed me off.
