This is clearly a sloth who has mange(a hair loss disease).But i guess nowadays people are so thick brained that this thought did not struck them before they decided to brutally murder a helpless creature.Plus why go for exploring if u are so freaked out by the sight of animals.Just because it doesn' look like something the human race has encountered before it doesn't make it a monster.I think these teenagers were not afraid of it in the first place.They just thought that it would be a really cool thing to show off and boast to your friends that you killed a 'monster', when they themselves knew that it was just a sloth who could not fight back.

it sure does look like a sloth, but examine it some more, the rocks size comparison to the body, sloths cannot grow that large, nor live in caves, cannot run, and probably would have been harder to hit with a rock. the facial structure and body-shape are much different, more like a human, but sloth like arms and hands/claws. but this creature in not a monster, more like an animal with a genetic mutation.
