A runway at New York’s JFK Airport was closed after dozens of diamondback turtles started wandering onto the tarmac. Flights were delayed for about 35 minutes while the Port Authority’s wildlife team swooped in and safely removed 78 of the reptiles or as the FAA described them: “RWY CONTAMINATION.” Still, the trespassers could have suffered a far worse fate. |Gothamist|
