Anyone who uses Twitter can probably testify that the site was acting much weirder than usual yesterday. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Twitter, one of the world’s most trafficked websites, had been hacked by a group calling themselves the “Iranian Cyber Army.”

Last night Twitter users were greeted by the image above when they visited the site and then were re-directed to a page displaying the following message:

Iranian Cyber Army

THIS SITE HAS BEEN HACKED BY IRANIAN CYBER ARMY

iRANiAN.CYBER.ARMY@GMAIL.COM

U.S.A. Think They Controlling And Managing Internet By Their Access, But THey Don’t, We Control And Manage Internet By Our Power, So Do Not Try To Stimulation Iranian Peoples To….

NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA?
WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST ;)
Take Care.

Twitter’s founders sort of blew off the whole thing on their blog last night, but this can’t be good, regardless of whether or not the hack job was carried out by real Iranian cyber-militants or a group of teenage pranksters. Just like our multi-million dollar predator drones being hacked with cheap software, an incident like this demonstrates how easy it would be for a small determined and savvy group to bring a mighty nation essentially run on computers to its knees. Kinda scary, no?
