The bloody dismembered body parts, Hollywood-style sets, and foreign actors playing Middle Eastern civilians and combatants at the National Training Center are mostly intended for U.S. soldiers headed to combat. But for the last year and a half, the 1,200 square mile simulation began embedding journalists with the troops in training, and unknowingly, some artists posing as journalists too. This weekend, Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro opens “Welcome to Fake Iraq,†a group exhibition by eight artists documenting and reacting to role-playing reporters in the 1,200 square mile war game.
