Although the World Wildlife Fund strongly condemned the controversial 9/11 – Tsunami attack ad that quickly made its way around the internet and tried to distance themselves by solely blaming the creative on their agency, DDB Brazil, the animals rights group was for it before they were against it, according to Ad Age. After securing approval from the client in December 2008, the ad reportedly ran once in a “small local paper.” On Wednesday, both parties owned up to the distasteful depiction, issuing a joint statement—in Portuguese—on their websites which read in part:
WWF-Brasil and DDB Brasil reaffirm that the ad never should have been created, approved or run. They deeply regret that this happened, and apologize to everyone who has been offended.
As far as the video version of the ad, no one is taking responsibility for it and a rep at DDB says they’re not sure who made that spot. |AdAge|
