NYPD Caught Shooting Protesters

After protesters won a court ruling allowing them to protest in front of Mayor Bloomberg’s plush townhouse on East 79th Street, the NYPD responded by taking photos of them from the roof of the Rudolf Steiner School in full violation of the Handschu agreement, which basically forbids them from filming legal demonstrations. |Gothamist|

Too Big To Not Fail: Stuy Town – Peter Cooper Village

It was only a matter of time before this would happen: “The owners of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village…have decided to turn over the properties to creditors.” Even after using lots of underhanded methods to remove tenants from the Orwellian complex, renovate and charge outrageous rents, Tishman Speyer was still unable to cover the costs of their amassing debt from the $5 billion land deal. |NYT|

Despite the pleas, Banksy’s Sundance art continues to be removed and most recently, Park City buffed his prayer boy in a style reminiscent of the Gray Ghost, essentially vandalizing Banksy’s vandalism with vandalism and vindicating at least one artist who thinks he was ripped off. For those keeping count, that’s 4 down and now officials are considering going after one on private property, which can be buffed without the owner’s permission if its deemed “graffiti.”

Officials in Utah don’t give a shit about Banksy’s Sundance art or its tendency to increase property values, their policy is to remove all graffiti within 72 hours period! An official from Park City confirmed that all of the work painted on public property has been buffed which includes the barn, the monkey on the utility box, and this kneeling angel. Although, they really didn’t do a good job as you can see. As for the pieces on private property? If the owners that were lucky enough to be vandalized were smart, they might consider a wiser and more preservationist tact.
