After reclaiming a 25-year-old piece and then mocking Banksy’s most recent canal-based work, graffiti veteran ROBBO (and possibly cohorts) are on a mission to keep taunting the world’s wealthiest street artist by declaring war on his global warming message and paying homage to the older, but not as talented stencil artist: Blek Le Rat. it makes me laugh everytime that i see this. i have been following banksy since near beginning and when i saw that a has been "team robbo" came onto the scene after 25 years and they think they have made some sort of statement we all laugh. they write a few words next to a tag or cover up a real piece of art with a tag that would have been cool and extreme if we were in the 1980's but that shitty ass lettering that a writer deep in the 3 day mark of tagging trains could spit out without trying is simply pathetic. team robbo might have been badass 25 years ago but now they are a bunch of half ass has beens. the tag banksy covered was so shitty its almost a damn miracle it was covered. that half ass piece of street art was better off being covered then seen by the naked eye of any human. team robbo youre time was over long ago, you try and come back and that half ass piece of shit tag you want to call graffiti is too old to cover real art. fuck you 80's posers
Vanderhill you must be new to real graffiti. How is what you are talking about any different from what Banksy did to destroy this piece of Graffiti heritage anyway? There would be no stencil darlings without people like Robbo there to start the scene. Maybe real graffiti is not as pretty to you as these stencils that are made on computers, but to some of us, that Robbo piece was worth Banksy's entire opus and more.
what about banksy saying "i haven't heard of you" and getting a brisk fist to the face? from robbo?

for the past 3 or 4yrs, i've thought of banksy almost as kindly as picasso. and although my politics have changed from communist to moderate, i still respect his lovingly lefty opinions
my natural inclination is to say "don't destroy other people's stuff", tho at the same time i really appreciate his work!
i myself have been working on combining media: from film, to paint, to photography.
i have a new idea which is beautiful and unique, and perhaps it falls short of banksy's: especially as far as recognition is concerned. but i'd rather paint for those whom i care about most deeply

Can skills? Banksy's work isn't about can skills (for the most part.) He creates thoughtful and well-made expressions of ideas and juxtapositions. It's where street art meets fine art.
I've always considered tagging crass and disgusting. It exists without a point and has no aesthetic or artistic value while requiring very little skill to accomplish.

Firstly 'Team Robbo' are certainly not has beens.. You might want to check out some of Keen One's work for 'can skills' as someone put it, WRH PFB and AWE crews have been frontrunners in London graff/train scene for decades, these guys are graffiti kings and have dedicated their lives to it.. Who was responsible for the UK's first window down WHOLE train?? Robbo and Drax… they painted 6 or 7 carriages! I bet Banksy has never been in a train yard!! Robbo stayed all city for years.. even with clampdowns, cameras, laser trips, transport police operations he consistently painted trains, fresh ones too.
Banksy is a great stencilist, good luck to him, he's made a very good living.. But..

and for those reading who don't know enough about English graffiti and who's done what then you can't have an opinion on a UK graffiti legend.
Why do people compare classic graffiti to what has become known as street art? is it because both are done illegally? is it because both involve spray paint (only some street art)? is it because people compare skiing to snowboarding? seriously, there is no point comparing two like they are even comparable. why do humans have to compare things and decide which is better? do you all really think that some graffiti artist only write the same name, do you really think that they only write graffiti, and vice versa with some street artists, people i hate to so rudely wake up those of yo on the outside, but some of us do it all, free hand can, bombs, stencils, paste ups, glue guns, rollers….just because our audience wants to fight over the shit doesnt mean that we do or need to, NOWWW WITH THAT SAID, no matter what y0u are putting up and how you are doing it, depening on the campaign and what you are currently running with, you NEVER need to go over someones shit, even if you have beef with them, you handle it face to face, not on canvas.

Who is Banksy to decide to cover robbo´s paint? Who is to decide what we like or not, what is art or not? Who is he? Maybe at London, Banksy is known but ask here in Spain, or Italy or another european country.
if banksy knows anything about street culture, he should know it was a stupid move going over one of the biggest kings london has ever spawned. I'm a writer from portugal and i know robbo and the stuff he did. We don't need to artistically justify our work, because the essence of graffiti is the experience of it, the places we visit, the friendships we make. It is not about art at all, it is about brotherhood. He should never have gone over robbos stuff, even if it is horrible for today's standards. We are talking about a strategist that did hundreds of trains and subways, a pioneer…Banksy would never have the balls to do just one of the missions he did, we are talking about completely different levels of work and involvment on the streets. I bet there where hundreds of shitty graffs on that place, we didn't he cross over another one? He wanted to make a arrogant statement, and now he has to deal with the backlash, although we are doing exactly what he wants, talking about it…

Banksy showed disrespect if he tried to pull that shit tin LA he would get dropped by the vatos and hood as tagging crews that would never let that slide. He is lucky, Robbo gets more street cred in London vecause he gets down with those guys, Banksy is elitist and deserves to be crossed out. You really have no clue what your talking about do you. Without the likes of King Robbo there would never have been graffiti in London to begin with and without graffiti then there would be no Street Art. So these upstart wannabe street artists owe there beginings to Robbo and co.
Some idiot from Bristol showing up painting some lame stencil with no skill and you wanna call that art. Get a grip and do a little research and have some understanding of the history of the art form before you slate a legandery graffiti writer in favour of some art student. Robbo was painting trains throughout Europe and even in the homeland of the graffiti, New York City, before Banksy was even an itch in his daddy's pants.

Robbo's main arguments are that Banksy has no 'street cred' and no skill. I'm not an expert on street cred, but it seems to me that world wide popularity as well as infamy is better than being known in the fucking ghetto and winning a pissing contest.
And no skill? Sure, stencils may be easier than doing free hand, but have you SEEN Banksy's free hand work? It's pretty fucking good, more than I have to say for the Robbo free hand I've seen. And while stencils are easier to produce than free hand, the stencils Banksy makes are pretty distinct and it's not easy to make ones that good. Banksy's a true artist: he can make stencils, free hand, and amazing paintings, whether they're remakes or spoofs of classics. And he has a message that means something other than "look at me I'm a chav with more street cred than you". Shut the fuck up, Robbo.
