People Who Don’t Like Looking At Art Like Reading About It Less

A recent study shows that providing contextual information alongside artworks makes people who already don’t care about art like it even less.  Read more »

Howdy Koonsy T-Shirts Still Available

Artist/prankster William Powhida and the Brooklyn Rail team up to bring you the “imaginary protest” for the New Museum’s Koons-curated Imaginary Museum exhibit series. A limited edition of 666, the “Howdy Koonsy” tee is a great way to support ye local “critical perspectives” rag and stir up shit at the same time. Obnoxioulicious! Previous Powhida/Rail colab furnished this mega-comic of art bloggers’ reactions to the ethics of exhibiting a museum trustee’s personal collection. |hyperallergic|

Historic Graffiti Buffed, Enthusiasts Collectively Moan, Forget It’s Graffiti

revs_cost_before revs_cost_after

While I’d love to pen a eulogy for the recently buffed REVS and COST graffiti that has adorned a massive wall above the High Line for time immemorial and rant about gentrification etc., there’s no need: it’s graffiti! Be happy that it lasted this long and hope the dynamic duo return to displace all the tidiness. |VanishingNY via Gothamist|

Nobody Puts Baby In A Vagina Corner

Next stop on the worldwide child abuse awareness advertising tour: South Korea. Previous stops have been Italy, Brazil, Australia, Poland, and Germany. This is, by far, the worst of the lot. The ad is for the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center. The copy has been translated to English by Seoul ad agency PromoFactory for publicity purposes. The upside down headline (click ad) reads: “If you don’t look closely, you won’t be able to see.” The clunky copy line, complete with typo, reads “Your indiffernce in the child sexual violence pushes your children to the corner in danger.” We’ll excuse the translation problems since the ad didn’t run this way. But upside down headlines are always annoying and rarely a good idea. And congrats art director for awkwardly designing a pussy into a sexual abuse ad. Don’t worry if it gives the pervs ideas. |Image via: AdOfDaMonth|

Although roasted nuts are quite possibly one of the most offensive smelling things in the entire city, this food vendor got totally screwed when he took a quick piss break and inspectors revoked his permit.

Terrorist’s Guilty Plea Is A Victory for Due Process, the Constitution, NYC

The terrorist who planned on bombing subways in NYC plead guilty and he wasn’t even tortured. Najibullah Zazi was tried in a federal civilian court and Attorney General Eric Holder is hoping this latest conviction will pave the way for the trial of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Ha! Not likely. Everyone’s too shook. |NYDN|

Just in case the models for Max Azria weren’t sure which way to walk on the runway during NY’s Fashion Week, a kind soul sketched up this helpful visual. More behind the scenes over here.

NJ Farmers Ready To Grow Weed

Last month, New Jersey became the 14th state in the nation to legalize medical weed and farmers there want in on the action. The legislation signed into law was a little ambiguous about providers, but they’re hopeful about the future prospects of growing what could be the state’s most popular herb and one “nurseryman” had this to say: “We would all like to grow it because we think it would be a good cash crop—literally.” Totally cliché, but true. |TheDailyJournal|

CPAC Concludes With Maniacal Rant, Stuttering

Watch as Fox News’ resident conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck tries to deliver a fiery speech at CPAC. He gets so worked up about Ronald Reagan and how America is crumbling into the sea that he’s at a loss for words…literally and can’t even complete his sentence. Beck in 2012? Let’s hope so.

Circling Lady Gaga

Artist Ben Heine created a striking portrait of vagina-equipped pop star, Lady Gaga. As he notes, “This is a digital work, but totally handmade. I painted each dot on a black surface.” See it really really big or click here for the making of.
