Film Criticism is a Questionable Folly

Irritating: buckets of crap poured over [the pretty good] Brooklyn’s Finest for not having enough/having too many guns-go-boom-related spectacles, while criticism for that video-game headache chasm Shutter Island is politely on half-dial.

Maybe it’s a case of critics hating on an unknown kid from Brooklyn stepping up vs. expected Scorsese/DiCaprio butt munching. Maybe it’s because rather than believing that it’s really that bad in Brownsville, critics are comfier explaining plot holes away with the ”it’s all because he’s craaazy” laziness out on an imaginary island.
