New UK Drench Spot Is Unoriginal—Should We Care?

drench

This is why digital technology was invented: to make a Rubik’s Cube out of an English man’s big honkin’ head. It’s the latest spot in Drench’s “Brain’s perform best when they’re hydrated” campaign. It’s a fun spot, about the best I’ve seen since the Skittles “Touch” commercial.

It was created by London’s CHI & Partners and includes the old school rapping of the Gap Band. But, scandal! It’s not the first time a man’s head has been turned into a Rubik’s Cube in an advert. A 2007 Playstation print ad via Chile featured a mixed up Rubik’s noggin. Usually, I’d piss on the unoriginality of the Drench spot. But, I’m sure a Rubik’s head image was created before 2007, and probably even in ad somewhere in the world. This is advertising, not art. Move on.
