Performance Artist Crashes MoMA Exhibit

07Marina Abramovic’s retrospective at the MoMA was crashed by artist Amir Baradaran in a “performance piece” called “The Other Artist is Present.” On four occasions, instead of playing audience, this man acted out silly ceremonies, including a marriage proposal in a large red dress and bombastic flattery, even managing to crack up the silent Abramovic resulting in lots of hype. Suggested alternative titles for the action: “Tribute/Annoyance in Four Acts” and “No, I’m Not Being Ironic. Really.”

I thought it was very moving. If you watch the entire interaction and read what his thinking was behind his actions, irony is not evident or intended. Afterwards Marina wept.
