Officials at BP are temporarily abandoning a plan to try and cap the Deepwater Horizon Well with a piece of equipment called a “top hat” and instead, will basically insert a big ol’ tube right into the riser, a technique which we assume is a lot more complicated than it looks in the above illustration.
