Tank Monument Painted Pink: Vandalism or Artist Tribute?


Russian cops are looking for the three teens who “disgraced” a war monument by painting a tank pink. But isn’t it really just an homage to Prague’s notorious sculptor David Černý and his pink tanks and parts?

Maybe it’s the Russian mainstream hysteria over anything gay-looking, but this is a serious matter and such. A criminal case has been opened for the “hooligans” – especially the one who dared to spray paint the tank with “I love Vanessa” in English.

And speaking of “tributes,” here is David Černý’s parody of Damien Hirst with the formaldehyde-pickled shark swapped for Sadam Hussein:
