Fight Club dir. David Fincher is remaking the thriller-rag-based Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie and wants his heroine to resemble Yo-Landi Vi$$er, “eye candy” of the satirical South African rap group Die Antwoord.
Now, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with its meh plot might be able to benefit from a Finchian stylization. The original flick also features one of the most caricatured and painfully unbelievable female protagonists ever and manages to be simultaneously offensive to lesbians, women in general and Goths… so, it will be interesting to see that caricature replaced by the stage persona of Yo-Landi Vi$$er – a tiny, curvy, baby-voiced blonde in all her Zef-stylings (deliberately white trash/old school). It’s unclear whether Fincher wants someone like her or the actual Yo-Landi, but either way that would make the “dark thriller” into… some sort of a comedy?
Die Antwoord’s shtick is kind of amusing, but you know, different strokes for different blokes. Watch the Cape Town comedic act’s video for “Zef Side” to see whether the Yo-Landi’s gyrations look like Fincher material.
